Dr. Andrew Weil: The Wrong Diagnosis

the American health care [system] doesn’t fulfill its prime directive — it does not help people become or stay healthy. It’s not a health care system at all; it’s a disease management system, and making the current system cheaper and more accessible will just spread the dysfunction more broadly.

I don’t live in the US, have only second-hand knowledge of how their health care system works (or, it seems, doesn’t). But this was an interesting viewpoint. If the numbers in the article are right, and I have no reason to doubt them, it’s astonishing.
